The Arts & Science Building refreshes the image of Northern Virginia Community College’s Woodbridge campus. As the first major campus building for several decades, the project introduced a new vocabulary in both materials and program. The project meets the complex needs of a community college campus as a hybrid building serving diverse academic programs, community outreach, and student life.
With a landmark presence, powerful learning environments and amenities, this inviting building attracts students; keeps them on campus beyond their class schedule; and welcomes community participation.
The building includes science and computer labs, an academic library, fine arts studios and accompanying gallery, black box theater, retail, dining, cyber cafe, and indoor and outdoor gathering spaces. The building’s specialized learning environments simulate real-world work experiences. The flexible spaces and furnishings with intensive technology integration accommodate diverse learning activities.
As a campus building, Arts and Science forms a new campus green, and with openness and abundant natural light makes connections to surrounding facilities and the environment. The variety of flexible spaces accommodates the academic and social needs of community college students, promote interaction, and showcase the arts and science programs.
This design will inspire our students and showcase our key programs - particularly the science and arts programs. Thank you and please congratulate your entire team for a job well done.
