Following a devastating 5.8 magnitude earthquake that both figuratively and literally shook the County, the Louisa community was left with an unusable high school facility. Within days, there was an extraordinary partnership between the school system and the County Board of Supervisors. This united leadership team worked with Commonwealth and Federal officials to plan the remaining school year with substantially reduced facilities.
This fast track, replacement high school addresses the evolving needs of today’s learner. The new school features dynamic, student-centered educational spaces that combine traditional classroom features with breakout spaces for collaborative, technology-enhanced, and project-based learning.
The design for the County’s only high school goes beyond replacing what was lost, providing students with new features for college and career readiness. G+P’s decades of high school experience allowed us to partner with Louisa County Public Schools and the community on this fast track, high profile project. We were able to bring tried and tested solutions, carefully adapted to give Louisa a school that feels uniquely its own.
Home of the Lions
The new school also features an expansive dining space which flows out to the exterior courtyard. The space allows students to gather and socialize. These large gathering spaces are thoughtfully separated from the academic wings, allowing community access.
Everyone involved has been very responsive to our needs and multiple constraints, flexible and willing to 'think outside the box' to meet our requriements, and knowledgeable in designing an educational facility.

Louisa County High School's Main Stage Theatre production recently took a first place regional theatre award in a Virtual Theatre Festival advancing to State level.
Career Technology Education
The school’s CTE spaces support contemporary models of teaching and facilitate learning by providing authentic, “real-world” experiences in fields such as music, arts, science, nursing, culinary arts, horticulture, veterinary science, automotive maintenance, and construction.
Closing Thoughts
The school's performing arts spaces and athletic facilities provide students and the community with extracurriculuar opportunities far beyond those typical of a high school.
